She's approached by Silverwind, a protector of time, with a job offer of monumental proportions-guarding time itself. There is a sentence or a couple words here and there, but nothing that feels impactful, emotional, genuine, or lasting. So much happens to our main character, but we never get any sort of real reaction from her. It's frustrating in general to read a book that tells you everything without showing, but it feels all the more frustrating coming from someone who gives out writing advice-and good advice at that! That's one of the biggest and most well known trope of bad writing of all! I'm just shocked that the author had this problem. But no, this trend persists the entirety of the book. We get told the action and find out the characters' perspectives on it later. I thought perhaps only this first initial scene would've been like that, which would've been rather interesting to see play out. It gets going immediately, which was a little jarring but otherwise would've been okay, if it wasn't so telly instead of showy. The awkward wording kind of threw me off. It starts off in a library with our heroine Terra coming face to face with the Nazi antagonist of the book-Hanns. It just feels a bit awkward, since I feel the quality of his videos is so high, it's a bit of a surprise to see this book written as it is. Perhaps I inadvertantly led myself to have higher than usual expectations, but the book is rather.not good. He just a normal Nazi who thought what he was doing was just and that Germany should win. Although the synopsis is a /bit/ misleading, as at no point does Hanns ever try proving Nazis were heroes nor was he all that confused about people referring to him as a monster. ![]() Typically you'll see the monoamorous couples described with each having their own paragraph, but no, he's a Nazi, he's her enemy, and that's hilarious. What attracted me most about this book was the synposis and the twist of the third paragaph. Lots of sarcasm and wit, making fun of standard tropes in many different genres, though typically YA. I found out about this author and book through his YouTube channel of bad writing advice, which unlike the name suggests, is good writing advice. Hanns will steal history itself if he has to, mistakenly believing it will prove him to be a hero. ![]() Now he must use his charisma and cunning to challenge the seemingly invincible Aeon Legion and its monopoly on time travel. Yet he cannot understand why people from the future regard him and his fellow Nazis as monsters. Hanns Speer is polite, good-natured, charming, a genius inventor of a time travel machine, and a dedicated member of the Nazi Party. Terra will prove that even someone as average as her can still be a heroine. Now Terra must turn that stubbornness into determination if she is to contend with history's finest soldiers and somehow pass the Aeon Legion's final test, the mysterious Labyrinth. Her persistence and bravery gains the notice and sponsorship of one of the Aeon Legion's greatest heroines. Terra Mason, a plain eighteen-year-old girl from the modern United States, has an impressive stubborn streak. Those they deem worthy gain a chance to compete in the toughest training program ever designed. To protect the Edge of Time from the disastrous alterations of time travelers, the Aeon Legion seeks the greatest soldiers and warriors from the most bloody, war-torn eras in history. Time travel has made the Edge of Time a dangerous place.
